Rises to the Challenge
Our newly purchased cabin looked to have an incurable defect: a bathroom with a slanted ceiling in the entrance and no door. Joe rose to the challenge and created a custom-built door that joined to a custom-built wall. Great creativity and skill at a very reasonable price.

Joe, the cabin looks really good. The trim, siding, soffits, fascia and caulking all look great. I appreciate how well picked up you left the cabin and garage. Thanks again for making this an enjoyable project.
Joe Hokanson of Bark River Remodeling has done three jobs for us over the past year. In all instances we have been most pleased with the results. Joe is a construction professional and a meticulous craftsman with an affable personality. Moreover, he has excellent ideas, and he has a clear understanding of what he will and will not do. We have found him to be very fair and straightforward in all transactions, and we recommend him with no reservations whatever.
We can’t say enough good things about Joe’s craftsmanship
We engaged Joe Hokanson, Bark River Remodeling, to convert a garage/work space building into a guest house. We were delighted with Joe’s thoroughness in planning before starting work, his coordination with us as the job proceeded, and the quality of his work and that of the tradesmen he chose for the job.
An example of Joe’s thoroughness in planning was his insistence that he take a sample of the concrete slab poured for the garage floor. As we were planning a 2-story living space, he explained that not all garage slabs would be poured to a thickness to support a 2-story structure. Sure enough, it was a thinner slab. We were disappointed that we could not proceed with our Dormer upper story, but imagine the structural problems 10 or 15 years into the future that Joe’s knowledge and foresight helped us avoid. Further, Joe was talking himself out of a job with larger billings.
Coordination during the job involved Laura as well as Joe. Joe and Laura follow professional contract procedures, so rights and responsibilities on both sides of the contract are spelled out clearly from the beginning. We were not in ewsidence throughout the construction period. Joe and Laura as a team kept us thoroughly informed through timely progress billings, job-site pictures that helped us visualize what was going on, and the not infrequent phone calls invariably brought about clarification for both sides.
The Guest House has been completed for about there years now, plenty of time for flaws and “oops-sies” that might have, but did not, show up. The fact that we can’t say enough good things about Joe’s craftsmanship in his carpentry, and his job management of building supplies and subcontractors, is our testimonial to how pleased we have been with the entire job.
